I know of only one individual faculty from the scores of faculty I know personally on campus who supports becoming a Division I school -- and that is me! Here's my reasoning: It's simple -- high caliber athletics attracts high caliber students. There are four essential dimensions to being a high caliber student in my field: talent, achievement, motivation, and resolve. I believe these four dimensions also describe D-1 athletes as well, only the details of the span may be different.
