    ClearType Tuner improves WindowsXP typography

    http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleartype/tuner/Step1.aspx

ClearType is a software technology developed by Microsoft that improves the readability of text on existing LCDs (Liquid Crystal Displays), such as laptop screens, Pocket PC screens and flat panel monitors. With ClearType font technology, the words on your computer screen look almost as sharp and clear as those printed on a piece of paper.
Anti-Aliasing really does a lot to help improve readability and aesthetics.  Browse to the link above in MSIE (WinXP) and allow the ActiveX component to run and install.  You will be asked to calibrate ClearType (a lot like going to the eye doctor--just click on the sample text that looks the best on your screen).

I've found it to be a nice improvement.

Re: ClearType allows anti-aliasing in WindowsXP typography (LCD displays)

I have been continually AMAZED at the dramatic improvement in readability and general aesthetics after running the ClearType Tuner on both my work and personal home computers.

I have also looked into ClearType a little more and have learned that it is so much more than simple anti-aliasing:

The video is captivating.  It is  a great window into the evolution of typography on the screen.

There is an interesting thread below the link to the video comparing ClearType to AAT (Apple Advanced Type).
