Hi!
Good luck with your program next fall. I just moved into the Murphy Apartments this term because I was having great difficulty finding affordable housing in Seattle that was convenient to school. Additionally, I, too, am a "non-traditional" student. I'm around your age in fact.
The Murphy Apartments are for full-time graduate students and upper division undergraduates. The grad students and law students share one of the buildings (The Rutilo Grande Building) in the complex.. The intent: a quiet place to relax and study.
The furnishings are fairly spartan to which you are allowed to add, and basic cable and high-speed internet are provided (You provide the tv and computer). Most of the units are studios that vary somewhat in size (and price) and there are also one-bedrooms available if you can afford them. I don't think the bedroom is much bigger than the bed itself, but it does provide separate sleeping quarters.
The studio beds are twin size. That can take some getting used to if you are not used to a twin. (I heretofore hadn't slept on a twin since I was about 12.) There's a list of things provided and things you'll need to bring at http://www.seattleu.edu/student/housing/_docs/14.pdf. Otherwise, the kitchens are quite adequate and spacious for most things as are the bathrooms (showers only). The staff at the Murphy are kind, wonderful people. They keep the place spotless, too.
The Murphy Apartments are separate from the residence halls (formerly known as dorms). It's actually a separate apartment complex - near the residence halls (Bellarmine and Campion), but not a part of them.
Hope this has helped. One other thing: Don't delay in getting that application in. Fall space is very competitive, and the reason why I moved in this January was because there wasn't any room left the previous September. By June, it was GONE. So, if you know for sure that you're coming to SU, get that app in.
Best Wishes!
