Blueprint

In light of future projects..

I was just reading an article about the top 15 features prospective students look for in a college website. Definitely interesting stuff. See anything you agree/disagree with? Maybe there is something missing from the list? Let us know!

1. Complete a financial aid estimator form
2. Complete a tuition cost calculator form
3. Complete an admissions application online
4. Request a campus visit by completing a form
5. Exchange instant messages with an admissions counselor or student worker
6. Complete a form to RSVP for a campus event
7. Inquire online
8. Read profiles of faculty
9. E-mail a faculty member
10. Read a blog written by a member of the faculty
11. Read profiles of current students
12. Read a blog written by a current student
13. View a virtual tour
14. Personalize a Web site
15. E-mail current students from the site

Thanks.  That's a great list.  I was just about to post about it, but you beat me to it.    The only one I  take issue with is number 14.  Personalization for personalization's sake is meaningless.    Why not "get personalized application status?"  Every other point is directly tied to a logical action by a prospective student.   This got me thinking about the importance of usability and simplicity in admissions sites.

Yeah, I find it a bit freaky when a site starts calling me by name. Maybe it's just me.

As for the list, number 5 is one that I am seeing more and more out there.
